Overwhelm

Recently my husband and I had a conversation about overwhelm. He was dealing with some overwhelm in his brain. I was a bit taken aback that he was feeling overwhelmed because he is usually a go with the flow kind of guy. I learned a few things from this experience. First of all, when life feels ever changing and often out of our control we can find ourselves feeling more of those feelings of overwhelm and stress. This may even happen to many people who don’t often feel this way. During our conversation I mentioned the idea of just writing down the things he was feeling. I suggested that he write down all of the things he felt he needed to do and, really anything else that came to his mind. After he did this we talked again and I asked how he was feeling. He said he felt much better and was able to sort through some of the things that had been troubling him. What I might encourage others to do is to take the time to write down the things that you are feeling. You may discover a lot of things. You might realize what is causing the feelings. You might find solutions. You may even realize that what your brain was causing you to feel overwhelmed about is really not as bad as you imagined.
